In Indian markets we have two major Stock exchanges NSE and BSE. So in these stock exchanges we can buy and sell shares of companies.To buy/sell we need trading account with a brokerage firm.And demat account with depository.These two can be provided by same or different companies.
Also we have market regulator which overviews these enteties i.e. stock exchange, broker and depositories.So that we are saved from any kind of wrongdoing from participants.
